Guide to Preproduction - Intermediate - 1:00 PM URTV Edit Room
A good finished product in television requires excellent pre-production skills. It's imperative that a producer spend time planning before picking up a camera and going out shooting. There are ground rules in television production, just like there are in writing. By all means be creative and think outside the box - but please, don't break these rules if you're planning a documentary or any other kind of factual based programming!
Concepts covered:
- Research
- Iinterviewing tips
- Shot lists
- Crews
- Location scouting
- Permits
- Networking skills
- Preparation for studio shows
- and more!
This workshop offers attendees simple and effective steps to achieving their goals. All it takes to bring a vision to reality is careful planning! And of course a little skill and a good idea!
Attendees should have an interest in television production and the desire to create a show. URTV Studio and Field Gear certifications are recommended but not required. The workshop focuses on factual programming and documentaries, but studio concepts are also covered.
ALISON HILL is an Emmy-nominated television producer, writer, and journalist with over ten years experience spanning two continents. Alison is also a seasoned interviewer and on-camera talent. Her credits include PBS, BBC, Channel 4 Wales (S4C), HTV Wales (ITV 1), Zootoo.com and of course URTV! She has interviewed a diverse range of people from celebrities to politicians and activists (including Michael Moore, Jason Alexander and a member of the Baghdad City Council).
Field Audio - Intermediate - 10:00 AM Studio A/Courtyard
The Field Audio workshop will demonstrate procedures and tips for capturing good sound in the field, for both indoor and outdoor scenarios. The URTV Field Gear Certification is recommended as a prerequisite for this workshop.
GREG SIPES became fascinated with audio recording after receiving a portable cassette recorder for his 8th birthday, and he’s been committing the sounds around him to tape (and hard drive) ever since. Today, we have moved to a whole new level of mass communication and understanding.
